In the Bachelor program, students learn competencies on technical, constructive, legal and social knowledge as well as the ability to create convincing design and sustainability. They then have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge in one of the Master programs.

Field trips and encounters with the built environment establish practical orientation. The various combinations with other disciplines lead - with increasing specialization - to cooperations with energy experts, civil engineers, art historians, urban and regional planners, landscape planners, artists and others.

Within this field of activity, architects take on the responsibility to design an appropriate and sustainable living space, for individuals as well as for society.

Several phases of studies

The Bachelor degree program in Architecture at TU Berlin is divided into two phases: the basic teaching in the first year and the deepening and combination of knowledge in the second and third years. In all three years, the close connection of building design itself with urban planning and prerequisites plays a prominent role. Because architecture and urban planning mutually influence each other, they must be developed together. The combination of the different approaches takes place in projects in which every detail is planned - from the development plan to the sizing of the heating system.

Target group

The Bachelor program in Architecture addresses all those who are interested in planning and designing, but also in social sciences and economics. The focus of this course of study is the teaching of design competence and the acquisition of technical, legal, and social knowledge. Since many students as well as some of the lecturers come from abroad, some courses are taught in English. Therefore, applicants should be willing to learn foreign languages.

The Bachelor's degree qualifies one to work for architecture firms, which is the preferred workplace for most graduates. Fields of activity can also be found in planning and construction authorities, in the construction industry, project development, and many other design offices. This includes for example interior design, exhibition design, product design, furniture design and production, and much more. In addition to these opportunites, the degree forms the basis for a Master degree in Architecture, which in a third phase of study, offers further opportunity of specialization. Graduates of German universities are in demand for their practical-oriented education, not only in Germany but also abroad.
